Feature Guide
This guide explains every Smakoo feature, what it is for, and what it costs when it is paid. It is meant to be read once, then looked up when needed. Nothing is compulsory: you can use Smakoo for free and ignore everything that follows.
Two words of vocabulary before we start. Credits pay for one specific action, once. A subscription opens rights that last for as long as it runs. The details of the subscriptions are on the Subscriptions page.
Discover, Encounters and People Nearby
These are the three ways to browse profiles.
- Discover — the main scrolling feed. Profiles follow one another, you move to the next with a single gesture. This is where you spend the most time.
- Encounters — profiles you can filter by age, distance and search. Two tabs: All, and Popular for the members with the most followers.
- People Nearby — the members closest to your position, with the distance.
If no profile matches your criteria, Smakoo tells you so clearly and offers to broaden your search in a single gesture, without retyping everything.
The Like
A like says "this profile appeals to me". It is free, within the limit of likes per day of your level: 50 on free, 500 on Plus, 2,000 on Gold, unlimited on Platinium.
When two people like each other, a match is created and the conversation opens immediately.
The Super Like
What it is for. A Super Like is an insistent like. It places your profile in a separate queue with the person you are targeting, and clearly tells them that you came by — instead of getting lost in the mass of ordinary likes.
How many you get each day: 1 on free, 3 on Plus, 5 on Gold, 10 on Platinium. These Super Likes refill every day.
Do you want more during the day? A pack of 10 Super Likes can be bought for 400 credits, at any time.
When to use it. On the profiles that really matter to you, not on all of them. A Super Like is rare: that is what gives it its value.
Boosts — getting noticed
An ordinary profile is drowned in the flow. A Boost takes it out of the flow. Smakoo offers four ways to do it, for different uses.
- Rise up — 150 credits. Your profile goes back to the top of the search results. Useful if you know that the first profiles in a list are the ones most looked at.
- Encounters Boost — 150 credits. Your profile is highlighted in the Encounters section, along with the most visible members.
- Spotlight — 182 credits. You appear in first position, in large format, in Discover. This is the most eye-catching Boost.
- Featured in Discover — 200 credits. You appear at the top of Discover for a set period of time, so that you stay visible for longer.
The free Boosts. From the Plus subscription upwards, you receive Boosts without paying anything: 1 per month on Plus, 3 on Gold, 5 on Platinium. They come on top of the Boosts you can buy.
When to use a Boost. During the hours when people are online — evenings on weekdays, weekends. A Boost bought at 4 in the morning is a wasted Boost.
Stories
What it is for. A Story is a short post, photo or video, that disappears on its own after a while. It shows your daily life, not your profile: that is what makes it alive.
How it works. You add a Story from the Stories tab. It appears at the top of the list for the members who follow you, with a colored ring as long as it has not been viewed.
What is free. Posting a Story and watching other people's Stories is free, with no limit.
Good to know. Because a Story disappears, it allows more naturalness than a profile photo. A simple, true Story works better than an overworked one.
Reels
What it is for. Reels are short, vertical videos that you watch by scrolling. It is the fastest format for showing who you are: a voice, a smile, a way of moving.
How it works. The Reels tab offers two filters: Recent for the latest videos published, Trending for the ones that are doing best. You can like a video, comment on it, and open its author's profile directly.
Your own Reels. The upload button lets you import a video, look at the ones you have purchased, the ones you have liked, and find all of your Reels in the same place.
What is free. Watching, liking, commenting, posting: free.
Live
What it is for. Live is a live broadcast. You are visible and you answer the people watching you, in real time.
How it works. From the Live tab, you start a broadcast or you join one from a member. You can stay public, or open a private session.
Private sessions. They are not visible to everyone: the members who access them unlock them. You stay in control of who comes in, and of the moment you stop.
Replay. A broadcast can be kept: it then stays available in its author's Reels.
Messaging
After a match, the conversation opens. There you exchange written messages, and you send gifts, photos and videos.
The conversation limit. The free account can open 5 new conversations per day — that is, write to 5 people first. Plus: 30. Gold: 100. Platinium: unlimited. The limit only concerns new conversations: you can always reply to whoever writes to you, without limit.
Have you reached the limit and do not want to wait until tomorrow? Resetting it costs 250 credits. You then start a full cycle again.
Reading comfort. You can search within your conversations, mark them as unread, and turn off the notifications of one specific member without blocking them.
Video calls
Video lets you check in thirty seconds what a written exchange takes days to reveal. It is reserved for subscriptions, from Plus upwards.
A call can be refused with no consequence: refusing is not a lack of politeness, it is a right.
Private photos
What it is for. Some photos are shown to the people you choose, not to everyone. Private photos stay blurred for the others.
What is free. Setting photos to private: free, and recommended.
Unlocking the private photos of a profile. Two ways: with a subscription from Plus upwards, or by paying 200 credits for that specific profile.
Gifts
A gift is sent inside a conversation. It is a gesture, an attention, a way of saying "I am thinking of you" when words are not enough.
Gifts are chosen from a gallery. Each one has its value in credits, shown before sending — you never pay blindly.
Credits
What it is for. Credits pay for one specific action, once. Buying a subscription does not give credits, and having credits does not replace a subscription: the two complement each other.
What you receive when you sign up. 50 credits, free, to try things out without paying anything.
The packages: 1,000 credits for $4.99 · 2,500 credits for $9.99 · 5,000 credits for $14.99. A credit costs less in the big packages.
Credits do not expire. They stay on your account for as long as the account exists, even if you go back to the free level.
The summary of what a credit buys:
- 150 credits — Rise up in search results
- 150 credits — Boost in Encounters
- 182 credits — Spotlight in first position in Discover
- 200 credits — Featured in Discover for a set period of time
- 200 credits — Unlock the private photos of a profile
- 250 credits — Reset the daily conversation limit
- 400 credits — A pack of 10 Super Likes
- variable — Gifts sent in a conversation
- 200 credits — Unlock the private photos of a profile (reminder)
Premium
A subscription removes the limits of the free account: more conversations, more likes, more Super Likes, free Boosts, video calls, private photos, the list of visitors and the list of people who liked you, and the disappearance of advertising.
The details of the levels, the prices and the advantages are on the Subscriptions page.
Profile verification
A verified profile carries a visible mark. It indicates that the person behind the account has been checked. The process is simple: you follow the requested gesture, you send the photo, and the team validates it.
A verified profile receives clearly more replies. It is one of the moves that pays off most on a dating platform — and it is free.
Super Likes received, visitors, likes received
Three lists, kept in the same place:
- Who visited your profile — useful for knowing who is interested in you and getting back in touch with the person at the right time. Reserved for Gold and Platinium.
- Who liked you — the list of people who already like you. Reserved for Gold and Platinium. This is the list that saves the most time: no need to search, they are already there.
- Your sent likes — to find a profile you came across too quickly.
Safety, blocking and reporting
- Blocking a member — they can no longer write to you, or see your profile. You can do it from their profile.
- Reporting a member — for inappropriate behavior, a fake profile, a scam. Reports are examined by the team.
- Do not disturb — you can turn off the notifications of a member without blocking them, or disable certain alerts from your settings.
- Private photos — the best protection remains never putting in public what you do not want to see circulating.
Language, profile and settings
- Language — Smakoo adapts automatically to the language of your browser, and you can change it at any time from the menu. Your choice is kept for your next visits. The available languages are French, English, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and Russian.
- Your photos — put at least three: a face shot from the front, a full-length one, and one showing you doing something. Profiles with three photos or more receive many more visits.
- Your bio — two true sentences are worth more than an empty paragraph. Say what you like, not what you are trying to look like.
Frequently asked questions
- Do I have to pay to use Smakoo? No. The free account is complete and will stay that way. Everything that is paid is extra comfort, never a prerequisite.
- What is the difference between a like, a Super Like and a Boost? A like says "you appeal to me". A Super Like says it louder, and stands out from the crowd. A Boost says nothing about taste: it makes your profile visible to more people.
- Can I cancel a purchase? Write to us from the contact form. Every request is reviewed.
- Are my conversations private? Yes. Your exchanges are only displayed to you and the person you are talking to.
- What happens if I do not log in any more? Your profile becomes less visible without you deactivating it. You can hide it explicitly from your settings.
- How do I get help? Through the contact form, accessible from the footer of every page.
